I want to apologise now for then inflicting this film review on you as my return post. I am a film sucker…by this I mean if there is a true story based film where a weak women finds her strength through learning to sky dive or there is a strong women beaten down by life, I will put it on in the background and probably get completely drawn in. So as always, there are spoilers in this blog.

Disliking a movie is not hard work. To merely dislike a story, an individual, or a thing suggests the sort of distanced and impersonal investment which can easily be shrugged off. Hating this picture — which I refuse to classify as a film — has taken its toll on me.

But he was a man of means, so he saw to it that Mr. Church Murphy would look after her. Murphy abandons every comic instinct he has to play this guy, a comfort-food cook who listens to jazz and smokes and turns out wondrous pies and cakes and stews and grits.
